In phonetic заумь, sounds are combined to form non-existing patterns that are meant to convey the message phonaesthetically, rather than through forming meaningful words and arranging them into sentences. The following example of a phonetical заумь immitates the perception of natural speech by a deaf-mute person. Frequent use of the laterals and nasal sounds [l], [m] and [n], particaularly in combination with a damp-sounding [g] evokes an impression of a claustrophobic space, tight and confined.
